TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Our carpet and knitting tubes are made of paperboard for winding yarns used in the carpet and knitting industries. There are no plastic tubes in our product range.
What makes carpet yarn different?
The most widely used yarn in machine-made carpet production is BCF — Bulk Continuous Filament. It is produced from synthetic polymers, chiefly polypropylene, and gains bulk through drawing and texturing.
Two of its properties matter most for the tube:
- Bulk. Because the yarn is bulked, it occupies more space at the same weight, which affects package diameter and winding geometry.
- Thickness. Carpet yarn is worked at far coarser counts than apparel yarns, which raises both winding tension and full package weight.
Carpet yarn also generally passes through twisting and heat-setting stages, during which it is transferred from one tube to another.
What is expected of the tube at this stage?
- Compressive strength. Because full package weight and winding tension are high, resistance to radial pressure is decisive.
- Stacking strength. Packages are stacked in storage; tubes in the lower rows are under constant load.
- End integrity. With coarse yarn the full winding width is used, so tube ends must be free of crushing for the edge layers to sit correctly.
The knitting side
Yarn counts and winding conditions in knitting differ from carpet, but what is expected of the tube remains the same: correct inner diameter, sufficient wall strength and a smooth surface.
Sizing and custom production
Our carpet and knitting tubes are produced in custom sizes. Inner diameter, length and wall thickness are determined together with you, based on your yarn count, winding tension, full package weight and storage conditions.
Printed and coloured tubes can also be supplied.
How to proceed
Simply share the dimensions of your current tube, a photograph of it, or details of the machine and yarn you work with. Once the size is confirmed, we can supply a sample.
Storage
We recommend storage in a dry, enclosed area, palletised and raised off the floor. With heavy packages, keeping stack heights moderate protects the tubes in the lower rows.
